How the numbers are worked out

Grades become numbers

Each grade converts to a value on a 4.0 scale: A and A+ are 4.0, A- is 3.7, B is 3.0, and so on down to 0 for an F. That value is multiplied by the credits to give quality points. Your GPA is the total quality points divided by the total credits.

Quarter hours convert to semester hours

CASAA reports every GPA in semester hours. One quarter hour counts as 0.667 semester hours, so 3 quarter credits become 2.001 semester credits. Pick the calendar your school actually used and the conversion happens for you.

Percentage grades have their own scales

If your transcript reports percentages, choose a percentage calendar. The US and Canadian scales differ: an 85 is a 3.0 on the US scale and a 4.0 on the Canadian one. That is CASAA's rule, not a rounding choice made here.

Some credits are left out

Non-graded credits do not count toward any GPA. That covers pass or fail courses, satisfactory marks, AP credit, and credit by exam. A grade of WF counts as an F. Mark those courses non-graded and they stay on your list without moving the total.

Subjects drive the category GPAs

CASAA sorts course subjects into Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Leave the subject blank if the course does not fit one of them. It still counts toward your cumulative GPA, it just does not land in a category. The subject list here was last checked on 2026-08-08.

Where your number can still differ

A verified GPA can come out differently. CASAA does not honor a school's forgiveness, academic renewal, or grade replacement policy, so every attempt at a repeated course counts. Course subjects can also be reassigned during verification.

This tool follows the method CASAA publishes on Calculating Your CASAA GPAs. The CAA Readiness Index is not affiliated with CASAA, AAAEP, or Liaison International, and nothing here replaces official verification. Your coursework stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
